Email Screening

Introduction

Supplied as a managed service, 1st Solution’s VirusBlock screening service provides inbound email virus and spam screening on your messages. VirusBlock works by passing email destined for your system through servers dedicated to virus and spam detection. If spam or viral content is found in an email that is destined for your system, the message is deleted from your delivery queue to prevent it reaching your network.

Using resilient servers the screening system is continually updated using worldwide real time blacklists and virus definition engines rather than on a set schedule, and is therefore more effective in detecting virus or spam content than your LAN based virus protection which typically updates on a daily schedule.

VirusBlock does not negate the need to run internal network and workstation virus protection such as Symantec Endpoint or other solutions which protect against web, malware or file based threats. Instead it works alongside you existing protection to increase detection and protection against email threats which are the most common cause of modern workstation virus infections.

Standard Features

The VirusBlock service is provided with a managed white list update service. This is because we understand that there are circumstances where email may be detected as Spam but is really a legitimate email. Adding the sender of the email to our white list effectively bypasses the spam screening service to enable the mail to be delivered. Requests to update the white list may be requested by subscribed customers using web based form.

The VirusBlock service will also operate as an inbound email relay server, which means that should your broadband connection fail the VirusBlock servers will queue your inbound email and deliver them once the broadband connection is re-established. This feature means that no emails are lost should your server be down, or internet link be out of service.

To use the service configuration of your internet firewall is required to allow SMTP access from our screening servers. DNS pointer changes (MX pointers) are also required to route your email through the service. 1st Solution can assist you with this process if required.
