Remote Backup

Introduction

Backing up your company’s data is important. The preparation for disaster haunts us all - what if the office burns down, or the server is stolen?

There are, however, some more familiar and everyday scenarios that we don’t always consider such as what happens if a virus gets to the server and corrupts the data? A hard disk fails? Or the tape backup... doesn’t?

Although you will all have had systems put in place to reduce these risks there is always a chance that it could happen. That’s why we all keep up-to-date backups, and store them safely... don’t we?

Four in five UK SMEs fail to run remote backups

Fewer than 20 per cent of UK small businesses are backing up key data remotely according to a survey by BT and the Institute of Directors And then of course we ensure our tape data backups are safely; taken off site each night... in the bottom of a secretaries handbag, right next to the sandwich box, we are certain that the data hasn’t been corrupted and that it won’t come into contact with a magnetic field whilst the bag is sat on the floor of the tube or train?

  • 60% of restore failures are due to media failure;
  • 46% of businesses suffer from data corruption or loss due to system failure.

We are sure that if we need to restore our data because there has been a problem that we can do this easily and efficiently, it will only take a few hours...

Of course, 1st Solution's remote online backup solution will comply with your insurance company's conditions and the various regulatory bodies as well as knowing your data's safe.

Standard Features

Supplied as a managed service 1st Solution will configure the software on your host server(s) and create the initial backup image to removable disk and then transfer it to our offsite storage arrays. This speeds up the setup of the service as the first backup (which is typically very large) does not need to traverse the internet to the storage arrays. Subsequent backups are made using your internet connection. For large volumes of data some customers may require an internet link upgrade to enable the backups to complete within a reasonable time window. This will be discussed with you should it be required.
